Description
I passed this poster a couple of times & it caught my fancy (what a strange, old-fashioned expression, but that's what popped into my head). It was posted on the side of a large building & after a little research I discovered that it was informing people that the Museum of Decorative Arts was closed for renovations & would re-open in 2017. This is the second major museum in Prague we encountered that will be closed until 2017 - that might be a good reason for art lovers to postpone their trip until then (though there was plenty to keep us occupied for the five days we were there & beyond)...

What a great poster!

It's a perfect sign for that venue! And yes, a very old-fashioned feel to it, as well as being quite memorable!

Very cool and unique way to get the information out to the public.

by itself this could have been a novelty shot, or even a so-so shot...shots of decorative posters are common enough, and can get boring. But this is so vivid, you drew out the hues so strongly, as well as the decay around the edges of the poster (and across the middle), the texture and decay of the walls (incl the spray paint graffiti), and a slice of background on the left that gives it all depth...the pic, as a result, is an eye popping frontal affair, and quite bracing. I love the poster itself, showing a weeping smiley face on top of an old piece of costume---fitting for a decoration museum. But your treatment and crop make it an eye popping shot. Terrific.
(It may appear that I find the same eye popping and ultra vivid presence in so much of your work, and maybe it sounds like I don't know how to see anything else sometimes...but it's in the work, you commit in a way that stuns the eye, and it shows up again and again, and I'm left with saying, over and over, that you commit, commit, commit, that you take sights that could be plain or even touristy, and turn them into electrified fields. I knew your Prague shots would radiate, but I'm struck at how much they do, and how consistently, and no matter what the subject---from people to architectural to quirky sights to everything else. Commitment to all these things is present over and over in your offerings, it just doesn't wane...)
