Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

(I gotta say, when I come here and no one else has shown up, I wanna wait in the wings till at least 10 people have commented. Is there a way to "hide" my comment until others have shown up? I feel like I should straighten my tie and comb my hair. Next time I'll write in Sanskrit or something. Ok, here goes...) Another fascinating otherworldly capture of fungi in your gallery. The flickr version is more bulbous, like rice-balls waiting to be dipped in soy sauce. These are like white cheese snacks. What bizarre and magical shapes they have! And all those brown twigs make great contrast. In fact, if this weren't in nature, it would be a great piece of design. More magical fungi shooting from you, and I never see this kind of growth in Chicago...

Another fascinating image of the extremely diverse collection of fungi that grow in your area! Thank you for enlightening us.

Ah, I think I came across some of these a year or two back at the arboretum, but I had no idea what I was seeing. As always you're a wealth of information! Superb closeup of another demonstration of nature's bounty!

Thanks. Thanks a lot, Mark. Now you've put me off my rice balls and cheese snacks. I do agree with him about this being otherworldly, more like space invaders actually. Its a great close up with a wonderful contrast between the white fungus and the deep green and brown surrounding it.

I must look closer when out with the girls. Interesting.
