Description
A Grumman F9f Panther overflies the CV-34 USS Oriskany, "The Mighty O".
The F9f Panther, designed by the Grumman company, was the US Navy's first successful carrier based jet fighter. It was used extensively by both the US Navy and the USMC during the Korean War, flying some 78,000 sorties by the end of the war. Downing a Yak-9 fighter gave the Panther the first air-to-air kill of the conflict. The F9f was used primarily in the air to ground role but is nevertheless credited with bringing down 7 enemy Mig 15's.
The F9 was produced to the tune of some 1,832 units until being retired in 1958. The Panther evolved into the Cougar, a similar variant with the exception of having swept wings meant to bring it more up to par with the vaunted Mig-15.
Excellent F9f Panther model, crafted by the incomparable Pedro Caparros, and very generously shared for free on sharecg.

Very cool presentation, Razor. Always loved this little jet especially when it was a "Blue Angel" back in the 50s. Thanks for the heads up on Pedro's freebie at sharecg. I'm going to cruise on over there and take advantage. :-)

Some nice models, your alpha planes go from strengh to strengh and your white water is again outstanding....all around an excellent image. Getting an aircraft carrier in the background with enough detail to keep it interesting while not swamping the focal point of the aircraft ....that's true art...bravo.
