Description

Tara (auntietk) and I took a trip to Chicago several years ago. Our hotel was right across the street from the Hancock building. I took this shot from our window.

A very cool shot. Are you sure this isn't some sort of infinity dock?

Looks like a building designed to survive a "shake and bake" (quake and fire) situation. Thought this was from San Franciso at first, then read your description. Interesting how this building is like one in San Franciso - could it be due to high winds in "Wind City"? Imagine cleaning all those windows and crawling about those slanted beams. Keep up the good work! :-)

I like all the comments so far. It does look like a phone dock. And as soon as I saw the pic, I knew Andrea would find it scary---people who don't like high rises will definitely not like the Hancock. (It took me a while, and I'm an architecture fan!) And T.Rex's comment is accurate: Those cross beams were to keep the building from shaking during wind. People don't realize that even massive monsters like this wave back and forth during high winds...Anyway, I love your view of this! A slightly skewed angle (it leans to the right), and a blank sky, and the light on those girders in wonderful reds and golds. Only you would capture the Hancock this way, it's unique and spontaneous, for a building that's usually captured as staid and unmoving. And you got some 'ripple' from the window too---on top. (There's a sight you don't see too often, lol.) Your shot makes it strange and fresh, which isn't easy to do with monoliths like this. Terrific capture. And I have vivid and wonderful memories of that trip. It was a total joy.

It is really, really, REALLY tall! I wouldn't want to be in the top when a good wind is blowing...super shot!

I remember this like it was yesterday! Wasn't that the best trip? And do you remember how freaked out I was that they park cars in that building on the 12th floor or whatever? LOL! Headlights pointing straight at us into our hotel room. Trippy! Thanks for this blast into one of the most delightful long weekends of my life. (And thanks for not even hesitating for a second when I called you and said, "Pack your bags, woman, we're going to Chicago!")
