Description

Acrylics on A5 cartridge paper, 1993 This was painted around the same time as the last post (the landscape of junk in blue mist). If not the same day then almost. This way of rendering mountains brightly lit from the side is totally nicked from Tim White, whom I discovered in 1989. There are lots of such examples in his book "Chiaroscuro" which was published by Paper Tiger in about 1988. Don't know if it's still in print (haven't seen other copies for years) but well worth seeking out. A brilliant fantasy/sci-fi artist with a very detailed, sometimes photorealistic style. teh contrast between the soft earial sky and the complicated and bright twisting of the kidney/mountain is impressive.. makes me feel slightly scared and disturbed, but at the same time i can't turn my eyes away... :)

Two paintings on the same day . . . man . . . It ususally takes me about a week to do ONE painting with acrylics or a similar medium. Watercolors, charcoal, and pencil take a bit less, but still . . . two in one day . . .
