really a great capture of the "windy " city. I like how you used the sand dunes to frame the city

This has such a great moody feel to it, Mark! Chi-town has never looked so good!

I saw on the news where there was a 'Towering Inferno" style fire at the Hancock building recently.

OHH I So love these dunes. It is amazing to see them so close to a huge city as Chicago. You captured both just in the right place for a magnificent and special photograph and I love the tone you have used here.

This is an interesting play on an oasis. The lonely traveler, lost perhaps, coming from the deep desert and seeing this vision on sanctuary rising out of the sand. Though, I can't help but feel that the oasis is the lonely one. I think I would see this and want to turn back to the solitude of that desert behind me.

Two such different worlds in one amazing photo, this looks like a movie shot in a kind of S.F. storytelling, where suddenly appears a never discovered city, with mysterious lights in an unprecedented and mystical glow. The transition from the dunes, in which a person knows nurtured in freedom and inspired by nature, and then at once a place of confrontation, which can not be inserted into the natural well being of the natural man; this is very intriguing to think about. Thank you for sharing this story by showing us your formidable shot, my friend Mark :).

What a dramatic contrast between foreground & background! "Unreal" (whoops, you made a slight typo in your title) is a very good description, because this looks like it could easily have been a composite image that you put together in collage style. It actually reminds me of manual collage work I did many years ago, with scissors, exacto knives & glue, in which I would insert completely different backgrounds behind foregrounds to create surreal scenes. You found an amazing location, chose a time of day with terrific lighting & put it all together brilliantly. A really unique & fine piece of photography...

What a surreal scene: the natural sandy beach in front of the super-sophisticated city, almost like a mirage! Spectacular vision, Mark!

Fantastic shot! Love the juxtaposition of the raw natural dunes with the towering man-made structures.

It does seem an odd juxtaposition to see sand dunes like this so near the city's skyscrapers. Well seen and taken, Mark!

Wasn't that big fellow the Sears Tower? What is it now, the Willets, the Marmaduke? I just can't keep up. I love the POV and the tree braches framing the scene. Its as if someone has just come in from the wilderness and stumbled upon a fabulous sci-fi city.
