It is all about making an impression, being someone, telling the world that you lived, even if it means dying. Also about belonging and being a part of something. Mass shooters do the first, suicide bombers do the first and second. There is also the fear of shame and failure, the fear that you are a traitor to your tribe to radicalize an otherwise nice person.
