Description
This is for barb (bakapo).
(It's huge...please double-zoom and scroll, if possible...)
I tried to do a fractal for Barb, but my fractals are so bad, I tabled it. So I did a Photoshop painting instead. To me, it's a curtain to the inside of the heart...
Barb is one of the wonderful artists I met through Lars (LBJ2), through his illness and passing. Lars would be so happy that he brought me to such an array of loving, talented people. And 'loving and talented' says it, for Barb; and I doubt anyone here would disagree. In searching her, on RR, I found a number of dedis for her, thanking her for helping them, for her advice and her kindness; and, of course, for her beautiful work.
She's done Daz/Studio as well as Fractals as well as photography. And, in each case, she brings magic to it. And joy, and love. I don't use that word lightly...I used it in my dedi to Jock (a week back) and I mean it as much for Barb. I felt love in her work from the start. Dave/magnus073 (who's fine, btw, just taking time from RR), said, a ways back, that Barb was one of the genuinely kind and loving people here, and that her work demonstrates that in every inch. I love her work. Her fractals are immensely playful but also rigorous---I assume she's had background in several types of art. Her 3D has been magic. I found a children's image in her early gallery, and it was sheer delight. It goes on. And she's posted gorgeous photographs which, to me, have an 'embrace' for whatever she sees, a gentle acceptance, like she took the subjects as her children or siblings. I assume she lives (at least part time) in New England; and I know that place, and she captures its rivers, forests, mountains and coastlines like a native. She gets it. And in even the craggiest coastlines, she embraces them, takes them under her wings with total acceptance...
And she's been as kind to me as to others, and even made a dedi for me when she'd only known me a short time...It was very touching and, of course, beautiful.
It's my turn to thank her for her kindness, gentle spirit, and for the beauty and embrace she brings to her art all the time. You keep the flame alive here, Barb, through your presence, art and shared beauty, and I'm very grateful. In a world torn as this one, you give a heart-filled, precious answer. To the words you quote in your bio, "It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child" (Picasso), I add: You create with the grace and love of Raphael, and your work dances and smiles like a child. A wonderful holiday to you, and may blessings and inspiration be with you now and always,
Mark

Oh, this is absolutely beautiful, Mark, thank you so much! the colors are striking and strong and yet so beautiful and smooth and deep. it looks like a curtain is being raised on stage and the bright white light will lead the witness to something new and wonderful. it's a stunning (almost fractal!) kaleidoscope image, not only pleasing to the eye, but to the heart and soul, too. I'm glad you mentioned Lars in this dedication; he meant a lot to me, and if he managed to bring beauty like this into my life by letting us meet, then his painful passing hurts a little less today. thank you for your kind words and friendship! hugs

Hey, I got an ebot!! Whoopie!!!! A very lovely dedication to bakapo. And image. It has a beautiful organic flow to it, and even with the bright colors, it is soothing. It's interesting with the white light area, as if the heart were opening to something ethereal and pure. As artists, I think we all open our hearts to the innocence of childhood, and to the excitement of exploring the unknown. This artwork reminds me of that feeling. The other part is the curtain effect, which resembles a stage, again emphasizing how we as artists present our work and ourselves in a kind of performance we hope will be understood and enjoyed. And the white reminds me of the blank canvas or screen we face before we begin creating. At first it can be daunting, facing all that white blankness, and then it begins to fill up with our vision, and the thrill of creating something that never existed before. I see all this in your artwork, Mark. A purity of heart, an excitement of exploration, and the blank screen that has limitless possibilities.

Very cool work here. I think maybe I'm seeing a lava lamp from the inside out. Either way, the colors work well together.
