Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Nice!

Are the large penguins a sort of training wheel ? If so , reserve several for me🙄 A nice capture of people having fun with something that does not have batteries.

Wheeee..... looks like a good way to learn and a fun way to lessen the trepidation. Nice capture, Andrea.

lol, Krittermom, no batteries...Delightful, Andrea, wonderful to see young and middle age on these things. As suggested above, I take it the penguins provide something to hold onto, on the ice. Really sweet shot, with the big white bellies of the penguins fitting right in with the white of the rink. Nice groupings too...and the kid in the yellow shirt is having a great time, while the penguin behind him is bored to death, looking out and thinking of ordering Chinese food and checking his texts...wonderful winter shot. And a nice break from the usual crowdedness that city streets have this time of year...a delight.

Very nice capture Andrea. I think the penguins are very helpful for beginners. It seems that it is warm on the ice or the two guys with the T-shirts are some harcore skaters ;)

It has been up to 13C in my town for weeks, very unusual for this time of year, but we are on the South Coast.

A wonderful candid shot and a great idea. We just fell down and broke things.

LOL! What a fun idea to teach people to skate :-) We have 10C and that is also unusual :)

I want one.

Cute; not sure how good they are for helping someone gain their ice-sense, seems like it would throw off a person's balance, but whatever...hopefully they're soft enough to break a fall! Great shot!

What a clever idea, these penguins make wonderful props.
Beautiful action shot Andrea.
