Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Don't you think it's sad when people are so busy with the "gotta have more" rules we have put on Christmas. It seems many have forgotten about love and the blessings most have.
Very telling capture of today's world.

Shopping is serious business; I try to stay out of shops this time of year, even going to the grocery can be a complicatedly unpleasant affair! I love the lights on the houses, but that's about it...

HA yes some people are so busy shopping, this time of the year, that they look like zombies. I like the two ghosts LOL !

"Its almost Christmas and we have shopping to do. So grab your coat and let's get this over with." Ah, yes, happy holidays. The one fellow looks like he is yelling at the other one. An outstanding image although I'm not sure fruits and vegetables qualify as seasonal excess. Another benefits for the non-religious.

It appears that someone didn't get up on the right side of the bed this morning.
Great capture and postwork

Stressful times, hurrying from here to there. Great candid and what a fine selection of fresh produce!

some great responses...I agree with Krittermom, Denise, and Helle, and love what Mark said. Yes, fruits and vegetables do not qualify as seasonal excess, and maybe if these two 'gray guys' looked to their left, they'd smile a little. (Those are healthy looking veggies, esp for Dec. And what are "satsumas"? Did I just show how little I know?) I love how you grayed out the two least happy looking shoppers of the bunch---and you gave them the Andrea treatment: Ie, you colonized their faces and hands into your topographical areas and maps. Great job graying them out without any artifacts or signs of your manipulations. Maybe they're just plain exhausted. And, with their demeanors, you got "Health On Line" above. Great that you included that! A delightful shot, even if it's a far-from-delighted bunch of shoppers. We need more of these shots during the season, to cut through the heaviness of the commercial side of this season. And, while I love carols in their original form (ie, small, folk-like, medieval, renaissance, etc), if I hear one more musak version of "Deck the Halls," i'm gonna sue the entire western Hemisphere...I love your shots of commercial craziness, they're right on the money...
