Description


The "Samuel Stewart House" in Waterford, New York, was built in 1802 by Samuel Stewart, Hudson River sloop owner, civic leader, legislator, general, architect and abolitionist, prototype of the "Waterford Gable" built of Dutch ballast brick. Reputed stop in the "Underground Railroad." Historic visitors include: Alexander Hamilton, Gen. Lafayette, Henry Clay, Fredrick Douglass, Horace Greeley and Tom Thumb.

That certainly is a beautiful home. Would the style be Federal? I'm not knowledgeable about architectural styles, but, whatever the style, it's a charming building.
