I partially removed lots of lead paint back when I was working. always recovered it to dispose of. I can imagine the chore to prevent it reaching the river

Its a dirty job, but someone got to remove the paint. Did you know that the contractor charged over 4.5 million dollars to give the Ol Bridge a face lift.

As a followup to the story. The Canadian boater apparently had some clout with the Canal Authority reneged on its 15-ft clearance and ordered the contractor to raise the deck back to 20-ft clearance for half of the span, switching when blasting and painting is required.
