My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!
If I’m missing from Renderosity from time to time, I’m busy having fun elsewhere.
Thanks for your interest in my work, and for stopping by to learn more about me!

intro
Strong composition

I was thinking "Nice female figure, who's the artist?" And then the wag in me replied "Her parents." This has a great POV and composition. I am familiar with Rothko so I don't think shooting the wall head on would have been as interesting.

I love this! I have never really got to grips with Rothko, in spite of attending fascinating lectures by doting famous aficionados. Your photo makes a much more exciting image.

lol...some not-so-great fans of Rothko here!!! Well, I love Rothko, so I wouldn't mind seeing just them in a photograph...but not with this pic, because your composition is just terrific. You have entered a real genre that's not explored by most photographers: Shots of people in museums, or just museum ambience itself. Rothko would approve---lots of rectangles here, both his and the museum's. And they dominate as they 'march' towards that lady. And the lady is at the far end, looking on, like a person facing a daunting cliff. It doesn't make the paintings look fearsome---not at all: Rather, it makes them look like tall sacred gods, with some deep secret hidden in their worlds. And she stands before them, contemplating them, all alone. A very intuitive vision of someone looking at art (or reading about it). And the looming verticals, and deep blacks, suit Rothko perfectly, esp his late, dark work. (I always wondered if the darkness in his work didn't reflect his early years in a torn Eastern Europe. I don't know his biography well.) Anyway, as you know, I'm a big fan of Rothko; and I say, to friends who think he's a big nothing, look very closely...because he has a whole world going on in and around his shapes. It's mystical. And penetrating. This photo almost makes his work, and any work in a museum, an altar----but then, art is a kind of altar for all of us, and there is something sacred about standing before it. I see this in a very positive, looming light. A terrific shot, and very truthful to museum-watching at its best.

My cousin has a painting on his wall by Rothko... I think. It is all yellow. :-I.. I like the black paintings, although I get so sleepy. And I do like his use of colors, but I like mostly your shot, Tara. Wonderful compo and perspective.

Quite an interesting capture, Tara. It certainly brings a sense of calm and tranquility. Maybe I need to spend a few hours at the Nelson Art Museum to calm my jangled brain cells!
