whenever I think I'm gonna be accused, by your fans, of praising your work 'too much', you post something like this. The detail on this, and the sweep, and the play of textures, and above all the humanity, are just tremendous. You got the ragged textures on the wall, the wonderful 'edgy-ness' of the moulding and wrought iron and ledges, etc. The stone under the balcony is the best: You got the tones and fracture of that great decay. And the shot's on a tilt, which lets it spill down on us, leading---here it is, again---to your surprise bottom: The bottom of the shot is a big swath of ultra decay, ending this descent to a building that says, "I've been lived in!" That's what's missing in my neighborhood, btw: Decay like that! That kind of decay would be done-over immediately---not just because it's good for the structure, but because decay is associated with "bad," not with life. Your black and white is marvelously gray, with lots of light; and your color on the clothes is natural and just right; and they're as lived-in as the building is. On top, a boarded window with an air conditioner from the 1400's, and apparently from people who don't wanna look out. Terrific shot. This is terrific. You lit into Havana with an unstoppable force. This series has been revelatory.
