it's been too long since I've commented here; you remain one of our very best artists in any medium, and one of our most inward and penetrating...This portrait is wonderful for Reinhard's pose, for his pronounced angle, his gaze "out" of the angle---he looks out and up to you. For his beautifully shaded eyes, for the simplicity of his hair---broad bright strokes, rather than lots of thin strokes---and ditto for his beard. And a serious, slightly inquisitive gaze, which you capture so easefully. And a deep blue patina, set off by your deep dark right side...A lot of humanity in this, it's a full person, caught in a single moment, and brought to life by your absolutely expert way with paints and brush. Wonderful work, Ruth.

It's so good to see your work again, old friend! I like this portrait very much. Your technique appears deceptively simple, yet his personality comes through beautifully. A fine portrait!
