Description


Shell Creek originates in the Big Horn Mountains at an elevation of over 11,000-ft (3,200 m) and descends on the western side of the Big Horn Mountains to an elevation of less than 3,800-ft (1,200 m) where it flows into the Bighorn River, which is a tributary of the Yellowstone River and part of the Missouri River Watershed. Some of the creek's water is diverted above the community of Shell, east of Greybull, to irrigate pasture lands and provide a municipal water supply for the town of Greybull. It's always interesting to see the exposed rock formation along a creekbed. Beautiful scenery, and the light is just right, with the hill clearly visible and the sunlight glaring off the bright water. Wonderful!
