Description
(Again, please zoom, it's large...)
This is for Harry (goodoleboy).
(He also has a gallery on DeviantArt, goodolboy77.)
First off, the ‘technical’ stuff isn't just an homage to Harry's background, but to his great eye for form, line, texture, etc. He finds them everywhere: In dilapidated garages and gritty sidewalks, in twigs or old shoes or torn gloves. In the sweeping lines of cars, or shopping carts and garage bins. He's worked tirelessly to find music in the things most of us ignore, the things under his nose...I’ve taken countless shots of my neighborhood, but it's impossible to find a lousy shot when you're surrounded by opulence. But Harry finds them in old padlocks. Or ugly street dividers---which become strange and beautiful when he’s through with them. That's why his fans so respect him. He's willing to tackle subjects which defy the 'photogenic', and make them sing.
He gets the electricity of early morning light on abandoned streets. Or street dividers and electrical towers. Then he turns around and captures roses (and other beauties), and shows the 'other' side of the camera: the mysteries and unfoldings of lush and sensual nature. And so it goes...
About his background: He spent years in technical illustration with painstaking precision. They were for the aeronautical industry, so you know they were exact. Having done some technical work myself, I can tell you that his is consummate; and this was before CAD programs and computers: He used technical pens, protractors, compasses, et al. He did Type work as well. Why mention this? Because he brings that sense to the camera: A search for balance and composition and visual melody; what we used to call "learned wisdom". And then to find beauty in it all...His fans (including me) have been very grateful for this. And I’ve learned a lot from it too. To find the picture ‘under my feet’, to not be afraid to look, to find, to engage...
This year (in his 80s), he got a terrible spinal problem----to the point where he could no longer walk most days; and found it hard to even stand. He's had treatments that have helped only a little. So, in addition to honoring his work, I want to honor his commitment. Anyone who's had daily pain understands its enormous depletions. Also, he’s a World War II veteran (the Philippines), and I honor that as well. I would never do a dedi without mentioning that...
So Harry, for all your lush roses and old, dignified soldiers, or your Renaissance Faires, or those minimalist sidewalks in your signature early-morning light...thank you! And I can’t forget your in-depth comments, which I know you work hard on, or your jokes and puns...I wish you as much healing as you can get, and I bow to your endurance and devotion in the face of all this adversity. Your work has been a joy for those of us who've followed you, and I’m sure they all join me to wish you a Happy Birthday, and many more, with love, gratitude and all the inspiration you can get; and wishes for many more to come, friend, with all my blessings and the hope that beauty go with you always, Mark

Oh no! My original comment, which was lengthy, went bye-bye into cyberspace again! I'm so mentally exhausted from composing the original comment that I'll have to give a brief synopses of it this time. That said, a beautiful treatment of the flowers and words, presented mostly in a pink milieu. Thank you beyond my humble words in creating and presenting this nonpareil triptych of very colorful multitiered rectangular images, with the Latin terminologies, as a grand birthday dedication to me on my highly advanced 80's year. Gad, am I ancient! I feel so mummified. Oh, as an addition to my resume history, add desktop publisher to my long career. Although I'm the oldest member on Renderosity, age-wise, I will continue, my physical condition willing, to present more art and photography to our websites. Thanks again, my friend, for this sterling offering.

Richly intoxicating and lush with orchidlike-colour, exactingly etched and overlaid precisely with frames-within-frames and balanced on clouds of luminous gases; this is a perfect trifecta to honour Harry, from the "preliminary sketch" feel of the first installment through the dress rehearsal to the polished finale. Well done, Mark, well done. Happy birthday, Harry!

Wonderful sequence of images seems that this have a sense only if the first two exist like in a progressive modification. Is a great dedication that seems to be made only a very intimate friendship between you and Herry that only you can understand in its full sense.

Your three images for Harry, shows up in a 'crescento' ! They are an unstoppable twirl of beauty and meanings. After reading you, i find a real presence of Harry in each one. In this three images, together with your words, You opened a golden veil about him and his life , as an artist , as a strong person, yet always aware of the simplicity of the little things. You made us conscious of his thoughtfulness and of the challenges that he won along his life, though the adversities that he went through and that still is! And, being a veteran of WAR II, a fighter, what always moves me, for many reasons...i bow with you in all you said. Your third image is beyond words. The background is wonderful, filled with all the colors of hope and joy and healing too. The fact that you made it spread 'out of the frame' means to me, how Harry jumped its own boundaries! I don't know Harry...but your image, Mark, is a portraiture of his wisdom and of his natural simplicity and of his knowledge about life as it is and shall be understood by us all. I love his humor:) and by what i have seen in his gallery, his creativity is unstoppable as well it is his strength to win adversities also is. I bow with You and i wish to Harry a Happy Birthday, with much improvement in his health ! I wish YOU, Harry, a good New Year, with much more health and the very best you can get!

A delightful and very colorful tribute to Harry, and very fitting after visiting his gallery. As you said, he finds beauty and interest in so many things. I particularly liked his birds on the wire, and what he did with that rusty valve. Very cool. And his flowers are lovely. Your artwork is filled with a healing and vibrant blend of Chakra colors and energy, which I hope helps Harry in his struggles with health. I do commend Harry for continuing to see and share the beauty and fascination in nature and life and wish him a very happy birthday.

Wow - not only is this a magnificent trio of images but an insightful and moving dedication as well. I can see I've missed some wonderful imagery, and I need to correct that - I'll be exploring his gallery this weekend.
