Description
As you enter the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the first thing you see is the grand staircase that leads to the statue of Theseus and the Centaur by Antonio Canova...

My word. I must say, I like the walls much better than I do the statue!

That screen seems inappropriate somehow.

When I see these sculptures I always wonder how these warriors kept those leaves on their bits in battle, without any visible ties or buttons or anything...and why they were willing to go around pointy weapons with their soft parts all exposed; at least they wore helmets, why no helmets for their little heads? (Just my inappropriate wonderment...) A superb capture of this magnificent work of art!

well I guess tara isn't a fan of the sculpture, lol! For me, it's the capture as well as the sculpture. The light on it, in your photo, is splendid. And the people in front of it not only give it context (it's a living museum), but contrast. Dark silhouette with bright marble...And the juxtaposition of the deep gold with the reds around it, and with that modern video above (I assume that's video or photography of some kind) is terrific. A real living museum capture. As for Denise's musing on how they fought with a single leaf in front, I'm pretty sure they had a weeeeeeeee bit more protection in real life, lol. I like her "why no helmets for their little heads?"
