Description
One of the guys who lives in the park here in Texas had to go out of town for a week, and we took care of his dog for him while he was away. Lucinda (myrrhluz) was here last weekend, so she got to hang out with this cutie with us for a few days. The dog is two-and-a-half years old, appears to be a Poodle/Lhasa Apso cross, and has the nicest disposition! She went home today, but we had a lovely time with her this week. Other friends took care of her the two days we weren't here while I was in the hospital.
And speaking of me being in the hospital ...
Thank you to everyone who sent me emails, site mails, cards, letters, notes, telephone calls, dedications, and general good wishes. (Oh ... and a link to old Captain Kangaroo reruns. Thanks, Lucinda! LOL!) This is such a wonderful community, and you're the reason I stick around year after year! I couldn't ask for better friends. I'll be answering your emails and commenting on dedications tonight, but in case I don't get to finish doing everything I want to do, I just wanted you all to know how VERY much I appreciate you! Extra-special thanks to Robert (wolfenshire) for taking the initiative and passing along my news to this community! It's good to have a Wolf in your corner. :)
So for those of you who like to know WHY people were in the hospital, I'll give you the short version. Those of you who don't care about such information ... just move along and enjoy the cute doggie and I won't mind a bit. :P
I've been taking the same blood pressure medication for about 20 years, and this week it seemed to just stop working. My blood pressure was up in the 160/85 range about half the time on Wednesday and Thursday, and on Friday morning my chest, neck and upper arms felt tight and tired, with a small amount of pressure. One of my friends here at the park is a retired nurse, and she said, "Get thee to the emergency clinic right now," so Bill took me in. My blood pressure was 198/90 (ish) and I was pretty uncomfortable! After three EKGs, a chest x-ray and two blood tests, they decided I had NOT had a heart attack, and that it was blood pressure related. They gave me all sorts of BP drugs in the hospital to bring it down, and we've got an interim plan in place until I can get to the doctor this week. So between adding more medication and spacing it out properly, my blood pressure has been between about 118/65 and 135/75 all day today. Quite a satisfactory result, especially considering how complex this issue can be.
It seems I have deep veins, and it took them nine tries to get an IV in, and then it was the ER doc who got it started with the help of an ultrasound machine. Then two more pokes to get blood drawn after the IV stopped producing, so my arms and hands look like somebody's been beating on me with a pipe. The nursing staff at the hospital has me on a list of "Oh no, I'M not gonna try to draw her blood!" list, because it hurts me so much to get poked that I can't help but yelp and cry. It's not pretty, and they feel bad about hurting me. I've got little bits of tape residue and glue all over my body from the heart monitor and the EKG tabs and rolls of medical tape, and it seems like I'm spending most of my free time checking my blood pressure. Other than that, everything seems to be fine! :P
It seems like there's always something these days that gets in the way of me getting to the computer, and I'll bet I've got more than one doctor appointment coming up this week, so if you don't see me for a few days, don't worry. I'll keep you posted, or will at least send messages through someone on this site to let you know how I'm doing if I can't be here.
Thanks again, everybody! You ROCK!!

I am so very happy you are doing better. I understand all too well the hard stick issue. I have some patients that are a real challenge everytime. And yes, regulating B/P can be complex. It sounds as though you are on your way to getting control again. Prayers to you.
Take care of yourself.

I love this little cutie that you were babysitting and I am so glad to hear that you are feeling a lot better now. The old heart is such an important part of our being eh! I too have those sort of veins but down here they call them running veins [ as soon as the needle comes out they run away :) ] so I know what you are talking about. I hope they can get your medication sorted soon.

Well, it's soo good to know you're home and doing better, my dear friend! Jo has BP issues as well, so we know what you're dealing with. Sometimes it takes trying a few different meds before they find the right one. Hopefully, they'll have you feeling better quickly!
Your little furry friend sure is a cutie!
Porphyrogenitus
She's adorbs! She looks like my sister's dog!

So good to know you are doing better, hope everything works out soon!
(Can't believe the little sweetheart in the picture, almost identical to our late Jingles in my avatar. Also of the same breed mix. Sounds like they both have a heart of gold.)

glad that you have it under control and it is a very cute dog

Happy you are well and the dog is so adorable great picture

Glad you're out and about, albeit bruised and battered; this little furkid is adorable, and maybe that's all you need--another dog to help lower that blood pressure (and don't be so stingy with those veins of yours!) I've been on the same med for several decades myself, but so far my pressure is stable as the Rock of Gibraltar at every check. Wonder what made yours suddenly go pear-shaped? Makes no sense... Try the pet solution, it's a proven fact!

Sugar nice to hear your on the mend

I am so glad you are out of the hospital and doing better. Gotta keep that pressure down. No more mud gator wrestling for you, or maybe more mud gator wrestling... hmm.. anyway. Stay well.

First of all I am glad you are doing better Tara and you appear to be in good spirits. Having this cute little dog around can't hurt. I hope everything returns to normal soon, and as it was suggested, maybe a little dog is all you need!

Well, Tara I have to say seeing that you were having some kind of trouble was the final enticement to get me back to this community. I have been only peeking in occassionally since last August and not leaving comments at all. Then I saw a post that was dedicated to you getting better and I knew I needed to get back here. I am so glad to see things are improving. I hope the docs can quickly find the best solution and that the solution is simple for you to implement.
Last night I posted a couple of photos and an apology for my absence, but somehow they got stuck in a place called "pending". I am not sure how to get them out of there and into my gallery. I will try to work on that today.
Thanks again for sharing your story and this cute doggie photo. Here in the Netherlands when someone is going through a difficult time we wish then "sterkte" which means strength. I wish you much sterkte. Love, from Katherine

Ah yes, Wolfie, I just met him, he also let me know, along with Faemike55 and RodS. Great bunch. Glad to hear you're out, and the experiments are over with for a wee bit. And remember, don't go near the lime jello!

Are you sure your neighbors didn't give you a stuffed animal toy? She is beyond cute.
Many years ago a nurse stuck a needle in my arm. When she couldn't find the vein she didn't remove the needle. She just moved it around until she found a vein. Since that time I've had all blood withdrawn through the hand. The veins there are very near the surface. You might try that next time.
So, a man dies and goes up to Heaven where he finds himself in a waiting room. The receptionist tells him to take a seat and God will be right with him for an interview prior to admittance into Heaven. He waits and waits and waits. After what feels like forever he asks the receptionist how much longer he will have to wait. The receptionist assures him it will not be long. A doctor in lab coat, with a reflector on his head and carrying a black bag walks in, right past the receptionist, and into God's office. The man is incensed.
"I've been waiting forever and you let that guy just walk on in?" "Oh, that's God. Sometimes he thinks he's a doctor."
Try that one on the next nurse you meet. They seem to love it although I can't understand why. {;->
Oh, yeah, and congratulations on busting out of the hospital. Glad to see you are on the mend.

lovely doggie and capture; didn't know you were ill; hope you will get better soon

Great to see you out of the hospital. Though at present 65, I've been on propanolol since 1997. Stress can really do weird things with one's body. I did NOT like the 198/90. I had 168/95 and that was bad enough. I'm glad you got through this well, despite the vein problem. I'm surprised they didn't try a vein on the back of your hand when they couldn't get one in your arm. Well, lets hope this problem is over and done with!
T.Rex and the "gang" say "Hi! Welcome back!" , and say "Hi!" to Bill from us!
PS - a cat can also be a very nice pet. My Kitty sits in my lap 2 or more hours when I'm at the computer. I don't get much done and get a sore behind from sitting still, but it's so nice. By the way, you should hear her snore! :-)

I am so glad and very happy to read, that Bill is by your side - all the way - but also Lucinda, what a great friend to know and to have, apart from all the other loyal 'fans' around here, what a nice little community RR is...
It might be a good idea if they could keep someone like a vampire at the hospital, who would certainly find the deep vein ! LOL Get well Tara
Cheers BB

Oh dearone, I didn't know you were in the hospital; and if I understand correctly, you are now back home, so Bill can take care of you. I am also very pleased that there was a nurse in your neighbourhood. In addition you were in particularly fine company of our good friend Lucinda. And what a cute dog, and photograph. I hope that everything is completely under control quickly, and they do not sting you more leak with all their needles, and the like. Become soon get better dear Tara, and thank you for your courageous and humorous report of all your events, and now quickly return to normal, right?
