Description
Mike, you wanted an update on Gillie. I released this wonderful furkid several weeks ago.
It was a hard day as I had to take her and several others quite a distance. I found a place
that has wonderful people that have given them supportive care. The mast has been so poor
this year that I would have had to keep them all winter is I had not found this place.
Gillie was so ready to go. Often people ask how I can let them go. I tell them that when I
look at them pacing in the cage, how could I not let them go.

Knowing how much you care and love Gillie, I can well imagine how difficult it is to set her free. I am so glad though. She is free to be herself once again, thanks to your love and care.
thank you for sharing this moment as well as all the pictures and videos of Her and the others.
I wish her well and a long life.
thank you again Bev...

Oh wow, raccoons in the wild.
I hear in Russia people keep them in the home, not even necessarily in a cage! But they remain semi-feral. They're cute but it's probably best they live in the wild rather than working on redecorating the home to make it suit the taste of raccoons.

The wild is such a dangerous place but still the best place for her.

Aw, thanks Bev for letting us know how it's gone for Gillie. You're seeing them "pacing in the cage" statement is a great indicator for when they want to be released. I'm glad you can let them go when they exhibit this behavior. Very good photo of this little cutie. Porphyrogenitus mentions racoons as pets in Russia. They were brought to Russia for their fur industry (the racoon was an exotic animal there) and released into the wild during the Russian October revolution. There's a clan near St. Petersburg. There's also a clan near the French-German border. These carry intestinal worms, which is why they are forbidden in Sweden (risk of infecting domestic wildlife). So I'm VERY happy to see your little fellows, be it at a distance, as they are not indigenous to Europe.
PS - thanks for comments on my silliness posts!

Gillie looks so well, so pleased there are kind people who will keep an eye on them. I can understand what you mean but must be wonderful to see them in their natural world. xx

So cute...you did the right thing. We should always do what´s good for them and not whats good for us. Think about it...would you like to live just in a house or roomsize cage, when you can discover the world?

Great mug shot of Gillie!
