Description
We passed this beautiful church several times by bus, on our way back & forth from our cruise ship to town, but I was unsuccessful at getting a decent photo of it. It's located right next to a busy intersection, with cars, signs & light poles all around making photography difficult. Finally, on our last day, I got this shot while walking on a pedestrian bridge back to our ship. There were still a light pole & a couple of distractions that marred the view, but I was able to Photoshop them out pretty easily...
From Wikipedia:
"St. Francis of Assisi Church, also known as the Kaiser Jubilee Church and the Mexico Church, is a Basilica-style Catholic church in Vienna, Austria. Built between 1898 and 1910, it was consecrated in 1913.
The construction of the church celebrated the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria. A competition was held to select the design and was won by architect Victor Luntz. The four-bay, basilica-like brick building was intended as a garrison church; designed in the Rhenish-Romanesque style, its three red-tiled towers are visible several kilometres away."

I love your perfect postwork on this shot. Not only did you remove the distractions, but you made the colors of the church against the sky pop perfectly. Great Job!! I hope to get to Vienna someday. :)

A few things. First of all, you'll speak of a building being 'consecrated' on a certain date. (A common-enough expression.) So when was my condo consecrated? Why didn't I get a consecration? These things bother me. Second, the light pole and other distractions that you photoshopped out? They're gonna come to your home and scream, "what're we, chopped liver???" You should do an upload just for them, to assuage their feelings...And third: This has nothing to do with this shot, but you'd mentioned Ice Capades, and a joke about the term: I'd heard a joke or two, and in any case, it's a takeoff on "escapades" (which you probably knew), and it's a better word because it comes from "escape". I say that because some people I knew hated the ice capades, and would've done anything to get out of that building pronto. Ok, my asides are over. Now to the shot.
Beautiful tones, and the church emerges in an almost fairy tale way above that lush greenery. We wouldn't know, from the shot, that it was surrounded by urbanity: This shot would've pleased St. Francis (with his deep roots in nature). Wonderful rich yellow tones, deep reds, luminous greens on the dormer windows. And the green of the trees has luminosity too. And the sky is rich and powder blue...A beautiful shot. You overcame the problems and made an image straight out of a fairy tale. I love this.
