Description
The King Ranch is a working cattle ranch so there are cowboys and cattle. It is necessary to rope cattle and brand them which requires a certain specialized skill. We were treated to an exhibition of those skills while we were visiting the ranch. No branding this day and the cattle were not physically harmed.

What a great capture of the action. It also shows how the horse does it's job so well especially in the middle shot where you see it holding the rope taut so the cowboy can do his job quickly without worry about the calf slipping out.

Glad about the branding. Here the cows wear ear tags.

I always feel for the calves, even if they aren't harmed; surely they must be psychologically traumatized. Excellent shots all, well done!

Well, I can honestly say I haven't rustled a lotta cattle in my day. I mean I come from the Midwest, so you'd have thought I'd rustle at least a calf. But they didn't have too many calves in Chicago, so I pretty much lost out. And...it's not a topic I expected to see in your gallery---though, with all you've captured, who knows! Lotta clarity in these shots, very sharp with lots of bright light; and you caught what appears to be 3 of the main stages of the act; I mean, I'd imagine the pursuit, the capture, and the subduing would be the 3 big steps. (And I like how you laid out the photos...the layout is very pleasing, esp against all that black.) Very clear shots, well composed, sharp, and with very crisp action, esp in 2 and 3. And I love the clothes hanging up back there. Very enjoyable work, Mark.
