Description

First, a confession about my previous post, Goethe. There was construction going on behind the statue that would have ruined the photo. I initially tried to remove the offending parts while retaining the rest of the background, but it was just too difficult, so I completely replaced the background instead with the brick wall & foliage from a different city entirely. I wasn't sure how convincing it would be, mainly because the pigeon looks tiny to me compared to the size of the leaves behind the statue. Nobody seemed to notice (or perhaps everyone was too polite to point it out), but I just wanted those of you who commented to know that if you visit Vienna, you will not find this statue in this location. This photo is of the Benedictine Abbey in Melk, Austria. It is quite an ornate structure, with many priceless treasures inside. Not my idea of the monastic life, but certainly an interesting place to visit. More info with my next post... Please zoom.

Oh my...that is very interesting about the statue photo. You are so good at photo manipulation. I was definitely fooled. Thanks for the enlightenment. This is a great shot too.

well THAT was pretty sneaky, lol! I was goin' on and on about the composition, and it turns out you layered a bunch of it into the shot! I'm with Katherine, you do seamless photomanipulation. I never suspected. And yeah, the pigeon was a little small, but I didn't catch it till you pointed it out. (Maybe they just have reeeeallllly big leaves in Vienna...) Anyway, this is a beautiful capture of an abbey on a mound: You do massed architectural shots so well (massings of nature and buildings). And the hues pop out at us, with a near white sky laced with very light blues. Sweet angle too. A beauty of a capture, Claude. (And yeah, monastic environs and lots of riches is kind of a conflict. I guess the monastics learn to see gold and gems as "mere matter"...)

So much for giving up the things of this world, eh? That's one of the richer buildings I've seen; it would cost a fortune to have a painting crew paint STRIPES for goshsake around the outside! That can't be an easy job. And then all the other fiddly little bits around the windows and the railings...it's a stunning building, and I wonder if they make people come in the back door so they don't have to explain themselves? Probably a dingy little wooden door in a rock wall, that creaks when you move it... This shot is fantastic!
