Description
The structure did appear to be a portal. But a portal to what? Joe had no idea how long the thing had been here, who had built it, or if it could still operate, assuming it had ever really done anything? What could possibly it’s power source? Two levers were all there appeared to be for controls. Having no idea how to interpret the symbols around the perimeter meant it would be difficult to operate the portal with any sense of purpose. He asked Caitlin to take a few pictures of the device’s starting position and decided working the levers was the only way to see if anything would happen.

Cool scene and portal... the lighting makes perfect sense....

Thanks for noticing the lighting. Whenever I do a scene I always try have it lit only by the lights that are part of the scene. It doesn't always turn out the way I'd like, but I spend lots of time tweaking the lighting.
