Description
I went up to check on my friends today. I am concerned as I have been told that someone was at the nest site for about 5 hours one day. My concern is that the parents stayed away from the nest the entire time. The person that watches the nest from across the river said that the mother did not come back until the man had been gone for 20 minutes. The day was cold. I so wish that people would have for more respect for life than to endanger the eggs like this. I know that the parents covered the eggs the next day. They do this when we have bad weather moving in. Today, I can only see the one egg. This does not mean that the other is gone, just maybe covered. The other concern is that I expected the first egg to hatch 2 days ago. I gues I wil just have to wait. If there are no chicks in the next 2 days, I guess that the man that let the eggs get cold has much to answer for.

Fabulous image, Bev. This is one mother I don't want to cross. I share your concern about that person bothering the nest

Damned! Humans are the worst predators. I wonder how he found out about where the nest is? I doubt if the invisible egg has been lost. As you say, it may well be underneath the surface. I suspect a cold day would postpone development and hatching. Now I'm very concerned to see how the family develops. Perhaps a NO TRESPASSING sign is in order. This demonstrates these birds know their friends and who is not in that category. I'm glad someone else is watching the nest, too. That way you have a witness should the intruder be of ill intent. As for this photo, very nice full front view. And, she's keeping an eye on you, just in case you try getting too close. Keep up the good work! :-)

You need a web cam, and a hide for strangers to use to watch the film.
