Description
This is the spot where a majagua (massacre) tree once stood. It was here in 1819 that the city of Cienfuegos (100 fires) was founded by French immigrants from Bordeaux.
It reads: Majagua: Punto de Partida Al Trazarse La Manzana en 1819.
Majagua: Starting point to draw Apple(?) in 1819.
It shows a map of Cienfuegos.

Interesting up to a point - but sad history in the making... because I simply abhor violence, mentally and physically !

I didn't know that Frenchs are part of the history of Cuba.

I looked up Cienfuegos---it's a big city! (I mean, for a small city.) And it has a typically colonial history, once the Europeans landed. I'm not sure what the "Apple" means, but it's a fascinating shot, reminiscent (get this) of the circular floor of the entry to the CIA. I don't know how I ever made that connection, but that CIA lobby is stuck in my mind. (Never been there, just seen pics.) I like the muted blues and pink-beiges, I assume faded from sun and rain. An in your face shot, but oddly peaceful. I imagine places like Cuba have lots of monuments to conquered cities, lands and peoples. Not to mention to the recent American and corporate conquests. It seems a very proud island, for all it's been through, and I'm moved that Cubans seem very friendly to Americans, given what America did to Cuba for so long...
