Description

Budapest is known for it's outdoor bathhouses, where the city's residents go to soak & socialize. Some of them, like the Szechenyi Baths where this was taken, are very ornate architecturally. If we had more time in Budapest, we would have liked to actually gone for a soak ourselves, but we did get to at least visit the building & I think I may have a couple of more photos to post from there...

I don't think I've ever noticed actual chains incorporated into the stylized designs on architecture before; what a beautiful pillar!

It is really amazing to me sometimes how much effort and creativity went in to many of these buildings. The details like this are really fantastic artworks on their own, but they are destined to mostly be ignored because they are just part of a pillar that people walk by to enter the building while busy contemplating other things such as a long hot soak or conversations with friends. Seldom do they receive the attention they deserve unless someone with a keen eye for detail such as Claude comes along to showcase the often unnoticed efforts of the artisan. Beautifully captured. I probably would have been so intent on the long hot soak that I would have missed this fine detail.

Yes, please post more photos from the bath. A colleague led a spa class trip to Budapest. I didn't go as I wasn't a part of that teaching. I'd like to see if some of your photos are from the places they visited. Keep up the good work! :-)

You wouldn't be able to keep me out of those places! Baths are my natural habitat. A super photo of this sculpture.

What a splendid example of Art Nouveau! It nigh transports me back to that time...of its creation. I love it!
