Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Thank goodness, I thought this was a very odd looking birthday cake! {;-> Its a fantastic find. The black and white pebbles remind me of Yin/Yang. Very Zen indeed and a wonderful gift for Mark.

It looks like a very expensive birthday cake from one of these new eccentric chefs!

I agree with Andrea, it does look like a very modern cake! I believe Mark told me last year that today is the correct date, I only posted early because I was afraid I'd forget unless I did it when I remembered the day was coming...so you are right, not late at all! Wonderful shot and dedi!

First, you did have the right date: It's March 21st. A few people posted early because they wanted to be safe, and that's fine! But if you'd posted in May, it's be fine too, so don't worry about the date. This is a 100% Marilyn shot, big, bold, something almost no one else would find, fun, and at the same time perplexing and dancing. It does look like an avant garde cake (ala Andrea): You ever been to some of the bakeries on NYC's upper west or east side? I imagine they have them in LA and SFrancisco too---where you get cakes that look like this rock, and you're not sure if you should eat them or hang them on the wall (or call a psychic to read it). And yes, it has a zen look for sure, as does the sand around it. I don't know how you find these things but you do. And I love it as a birthday gift! It's perfect from---thank you so much Marilyn! And for remembering. And for the wish. I must hook up with you again, we're due to share, the lack of which has been as much my negligence as anything. But when I start commenting again, I'll comment on your recent uploads, which have been big looming beautiful shots. In the meantime, thank you for your wish, as always, and your very 'marilyn' shot, a puzzle and dance and cake and ancient mystery all wrapped into one. And did you notice that one of the white stones is sitting in front of the rock---I guess he got tired of the whole damned thing and decided to leave. I love it, thank you again Marilyn, this is a wonderful gift from you!
