Once again, you have created a reality with contradictory elements...and yet all the elements make an organic whole...These nymphs are creatures-of-the-sea, yet you portray them sitting on TOP of the water, as if they came to a shore to meet us. They are rendered in a deep silver-blue, similar to the color of the water (of the Egeo, from whence they came)---but they shine. A beautiful hue, Giuliano. We can see great fish and other sea-creatures behind them: This image is clearly underwater. Yet the image is also above water---and it looks wholly natural both ways.

You have great variety in the nymphs: Many personalities, many types of hair, many expressions. Some look bored, some look scared, some look relaxed...one woman has her head on her hand...I love the variety of hair: One woman (on the right, top) has hair made of scraps, like her hair were made of metal "shavings" (trucioli?). A wonderful variety, here.

And, though these nymphs are famous for being kind (for saving people on the sea), you portrayed them as normal young people---with many moods: some are interested, some are not, some are attentive, some are in daydreams (sognare ad occhi aperti?). I love the many expressions you captured here.

Perhaps they are "in between" jobs! I know they were in the Iliad and the Aeneid, and other legends. But maybe they're just relaxing now, "taking a break". I don't know...But I love their different expressions, as they wait for their next "call," convocazione, vocazione (I don't think that's the right word, I mean a spiritual "call," like they're being called by duty or by the gods, to help other people). A wonderful array of humanity. And your textures and deep hues make these young women ancient. Brilliantly done, Giuliano.
