Description

Casapueblo is located on Punta Ballena, a small spit of land, which juts into the Rio de la Plate on the Uruguyan side of the river, the Uruguayan Riviera. It is located about 13 km west of Punta del Este, Casapuebla was begun in 1958 by Uruguayan artist Pablo Paez Vilaro (1923-2014). Paez Vilaro was an abstract artist, painter, potter, sculptor, muralist, writer, composer and conductor. What was started as a summer house and workshop evolved into a museum, an art gallery, his home and a four-star hotel with a combination of different size rooms and apartments, accommodating between 2 to 8 people each, all individually named, It also includes a restaurant, the 'Las Terrazos', several heated pools, saunas and spas. The complex started around a wooden house made of boards found on the coast, called 'La Pionera', and using traditional methods and primarily concrete and plaster with no straight lines and because it is primarily white it evolved into a style that can be compared with the houses of the Mediterranean islands such as Mykonos and Santorini .The construction took 36 years to be completed. Because Casapueblo is located on a cliff, it has 13 stories, and because it is west facing it is ideal for sunset and whale watching. This picture was taken on 29 November 2006, Sig...
