Description

This was my first new car. In the mid 1960's this car was advertised as the lowest cost, genuine sports car in the U.S.at $1995.- I ordered mine while stationed in the Philippines in 1967 and had it shipped to Jamaica, Queens, New York. The cost, including shipping was $1310.- The first thing I ordered after I picked it up were mini light alloy wheels for about $300, next I took off the bumpers and put on a Strebo free flow exhaust.. The car had a 1,300 cc engine with 67 hp and at 6,300 rpm (the red line) it ran at 100 mph indicated. It was easy to pick up girls with it, they loved it All my buddies had Road Runners, Vettes, or Super Bees. I had the Sprite for almost five years and traded it in for a 1972 Super Beetle after someone ripped off my tonneau cover while on the Jersey Shore.
