Description
No Papal palace would be complete without a cathedral sidekick. The Notre Dame des Doms is that for the Papal palace in Avignon. We did not make it for a tour of the cathedral. There are older statues of Mary in this cathedral somewhere, but this one which adorns the top is the one most noticeable to us. It was rather hard to miss. Here is a bit from their website about it. :
"In top of the tower: This is the statue 6 meters high and 4,500 kilos which dominates the city since 1859 and was re-gilded on the occasion of the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000. the Virgin does not carry the Infant Jesus, but with one hand she blesses the city, on the other it protects."

I take it that this was the statue we saw through one of the windows in your last upload. Yes, we can see she's definitely blessing something or someone. She really stands out up there, with all that gold. (Can you imagine re-gilding that? I wouldn't want to be on one of those scaffolds...) We also see other statuary (on the left), including a crucifix and angels. And even a van (!) which brings us right into the 21st Century. I love that it's in the shot, it roots us in the present. You had a fine sky that day too. Another fine shot in this series.

... it's like seeing into the minds of our past --- Memories are sometimes the only thing a person has Because sometime in our life, we all lose someone we love. And sometimes a memory is all a loved one has to leave us When their time comes.
