Description

One of many set of stairs in the Papal Palace at Avignon. This one reminded me of the song, "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin.

Indeed they were well worn as were many other areas. In this case hopefully it means many have made it to heaven. :)

The "stairway to heaven" is another term for Jacob's ladder, which appears in Genesis 28:11-19. This is a perfect title for this image and a superb capture.

Oh, 'Yes' Katherine, this really IS the stairway to heaven, and into the light. A most beautiful mood you brought into this photo, my friend.

Another captivating shot of old worn stairs from you! (And I can see the Avignon monks and nuns pondering, "Led Zeppelin??? Who in the world are they???") I love the way the light spills over the stair tops, and obliterates the top of the shot---you re-created their heaven with that light. And there's some deep yellow up there too, very buttery. We can see that a lot of these old stairwells were narrow: Either people were very thin in those days, or they didn't like to waste a lot of space on stairs...A beautiful cloistered shot, with great light and drama. And the top of the image looks a little like a 'hall of mirrors', with its repeated forms. More fine work from you, Katherine. I'll be back for more soon...

I'll build a stairway to paradise, with a new step every day! Wonderful lighting effects, depth and repetition in this shot.
