Description

Creation Date: April 05, 2016 "It's not easy to reflect on what was never there to begin with." Notes: I could say what this artwork means to me, what inspired me to create this exact subject matter, but I won't. I would prefer to let it mean whatever it means to the viewer. It's one of those artworks that is open to interpretation even though I had a very specific feeling and thought in mind when I created it. I want to keep it that way. I did create an artwork that was similar to this, and based on the same feelings/thoughts, back in 2009 but my skills have greatly improved since then and the emotions continue so I decided to create a new and improved version. Tech Notes: The reflection was not created in postwork but is part of the raw render. I used a variety of tricky camera positioning, Poser camera settings, raytraced reflections, and special lighting to create the final effect of the man appearing only in the mirror even though in the un-rendered scene, he is standing right behind her. I'm quite proud of that technical achievement in this artwork. I thought I was going to have to fake the reflection like I did in a similar scene from 2009 where I created the effect with three posed models on either side of a see-through box. I also added an invisible IDL projector behind the mirror to project just a touch of light onto the woman to replicate how light would bounce off the mirror and reflect onto her in real life. Poser didn't seem to want to do that on it's own. Postwork was relatively minimal with just some touch-ups, addition of some overlaid textures/borders, and some color adjustments. Thank you for your comment. It is an emotional piece, but I'm glad to hear that the emotion is coming through.

I'm still not sure how you did this without doing 2 renders - one with both figures, and one with only her. The work is outstanding. Without him in the foreground it is well understood she misses him, imagining his arms around her. Which raises the question - where is he? Or is he no longer? Or, is it a magic mirror where she can see him even if he's not there? Keep up the good work! :-)

My rating - 6+

Very touching! Well executed, 5 stars. I'm sure it does justice to the emotion that lead to it's creation.
