Creation Date: April 09, 2016 "Two blush roses in an alabaster vase with touch of romance among the gentle petals on soft velvet." Notes: Is this really my first still life since 2012?? Yes, yes it is. A 3D still life can be so hit or miss (at least when I'm trying to create them) but this one definitely works. This started as an idea I sketched out around Valentine's Day and then it sort of took on a life of its own once I began putting the pieces together. This might be my first, or first in a long time, artwork that uses IDL as the main lighting rather than any traditional lights which has given it a much softer look than most of my other artworks. I almost didn't postwork this artwork because the raw render looked quite good on its own but I wanted my creamy gold toned idea to come full circle. Tech Notes: As I mentioned, this artwork uses full IDL lights with both a global IDL dome/sphere and an IDL soft spot light (thanks to the fantastic IDL lighting props by Colm at RDNA). I mostly did this not only because it gives the piece a softer look but it also solved some technical problems I was having with getting the shadows to look correct underneath the petals on the velvet. That velvet cloth is actually a flat plane prop that I used Poser dynamics over several smaller props to create a wrinkled surface then positioned the petals on top. I used Poser's built-in depth of field effects while rendering rather than creating that effect in postwork. I'm starting to really get the hang of using the Poser DoF now. In postwork I used several Photoshop actions to adjust the colors and create the creamy gold tones I was going for. I also added a few overlays to give it a more vintage style look.
