Ok...
You all know Photoshop.
Well, this is a professional MUSIC program! A "Digital Audio Workstation" (DAW). For the computer.
It's Logic Pro X, and it's reeeeealllllllllly complicated. (It's got features you won't use in a lifetime.)
And THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is a composition! Hard to tell, isn't it...
You know that music I did for Koosievantutte? Done on this program.
Those colored windows are instruments. I added 10 more after this screenshot was taken. The other sections are "mixers," effects, and so on.
Please zoom all the way: It's worth it. Even if you don't know what the heck you're looking at, it's fun to explore...
These programs are SOOOOO different from playing the piano! (Which is where I was trained.) But: You can play instruments from all over the world, get cathedral ambience, and so on. Here, you're looking at a Concert Grand Piano, and a Shofar---yes, the ancient Hebrew horn. I thought it fitting, since this is the first night of Passover/Pesach. So enjoy!
Happy Passover to all who celebrate it!
(I have a few of you left to comment-on: I'll complete everything on the weekend.)
HAVE A FINE WEEKEND ALL!
Mark
(Again, more to see zoomed!)

That looks very interesting and cool. you did great on that song for Koosie.
I've a Casio 630 66-keyboard and Finale Song writer 2010 (need to update that. When I get my own place, I plan on setting them up and teaching myself some music or is that muzak?

Isn't it amazing what you can do with computers these days. This looks very complicated but I guess once you find your way around and take some lessons the music world will open up to you. I can see how this would occupy all your spare time. I have a hard enough job trying to find my way around Poser so it will be a while before I could start on this. Thank you so much for sharing your studio with us and I hope that one day I may be able to make some music too.

You might as well show me Einstein's Theory of Relativity in ancient Sanskrit - I could probably make as much sense & use of that as I could of this piece of software. I'm a very visual person & can conquer most pieces of photo & graphic software fairly well, but have no musical ability whatsoever (though I do love to listen to music of various kinds). The interface does have a certain visual elegance, however, even if it does seem quite complex...

the recording you gave a link for is very beautiful. do you know the difference between a violin and a fiddle? a violin has strings and a fiddle has "strangs "
I would be lost with this obvious expensive software. glad you are a master of it

Oh, dude...... Wow!
I'm gonna be emailing you about this - I have about a million questions about this software (well, maybe only a half million) so you might regret posting this - LOL
This looks like some serious stuff. You write music, too? My hat is off to you, Mark! Or at least it would be if I wore one! :-D

Great to see your music work station, Mark. It does look quite complex, but also very capable of producing what you want. And the fact that you are trained in piano really helps you compose on the keyboard. LJ and I had a similar digital studio set up, though he used Pro Tools. And it was such a thrill to be able to select instruments from all over the world. The possibilities were endless. For some compositions we had over a hundred tracks we were working with to complete one arrangement. And it's really a plus that musicians are now able to have a professional studio and produce a professional product at a fraction of what it used to cost. This opens up the creative world to everyone. I'm sure you are having a grand time, and the music you've been sharing certainly shows your talent and skill. Looking forward to hearing more of your compositions.

I have always loved music and I regret not being able to compose. I tried to do anything with some program (Garage Band on Apple) but I understand that I lack the basics. I see that this program seems very comprehensive and complicated I suppose I'm sure you know that as a person attentive and sensitive will be able to draw some good things.

First day of Passover, eh. I am so out of touch my Chinese friend had to remind me. This looks very appealing, and all for $199. I have an electronic keyboard but don't have the discipline to practice my scales. This might be a reasonable alternative.

Interesting tool set.

What a great share! Isn't this world full of wonders? I love music, but like the others I have not developed that talent. I would love fiddling with this program though. Thanks for sharing your digital platform.

Looks like you have quite the setup,Mark. With your talent and discipline fine things like your tribute music are created.

Absolutely fascinating!
And quite beyond me.

Do you compose tracks for Era Mark? I have an old CD of Era (i think it is there first one called Era) and i like this kind of music a lot.

Hi Marc, I agree, it's looking absolutely fascinating!!!!

OMG, what sorcery is this? Real studio equipment. The only things I sort of recognize are what could be identified as piano keys, a synthesizer, and stereo frequency equalizers. And I could be wrong on those. Good luck on me IDing the rest of the equipment. With these applications, you have the ability to create anything musical, from religious hymns to Glenn Miller, and far beyond. Now that I think of it, have you been dabbling with Passover/Pesach music? Speaking of which, even if I was inclined to do so, I have no family to celebrate that holiday with. In any case, Happy Passover to you. But I have digressed enough. Great clarity and detail in this esoteric composition, Mark

Wow! That's so amazingly impressive, and you know how to USE it???? You're my hero...

this is cool. I like the Shofar and would love to hear a piano together with it and a david harp wow bet that be something to hear.
auntietk
Please tell me this hooks up to an external electronic piano keyboard! LOL! I can't fathom how you would use it otherwise. It looks like an awesome program. I will have to listen to your Koosie composition later, because we are on the road and have crappy Internet. I can't wait to hear it, though!
I assume you can lay down a track, play it back, and lay down another track on top of it while it's playing? I love the graphic and photographic quality of the instrument controls. Wow! this looks like something you could get lost in forever!

What an possibilities, incredible and impressively. This IS so interesting!!!! And I will show this to Karel when he comes home. Because he plays on a "Johannes" church organ, to which he has plugged many electronic 'bells and whistles', as equipment; with a lot of sound boxes everywhere in our room, not to count so many. At least not for me. Thank you so much for sharing, Mark. Haha, you are a 'rich man'.

I have an older version of Logic Pro (IX), and the latest version of its baby brother, GarageBand, but I've yet to dip my toes into them. My impetus for writing and recording music was cut short last year when my very good friend and musical collaborator had a heart attack and died in September last year, just as we were planning to embark on a musical journey together... I'm swamped in work at the moment, and will only poke my head above water at the end of July, but seeing this is firing me up to get back into music - before my fingers turn to stone and my ears follow suit. I must seek out the piece you refer to above...

MARVELOUS!

At first sight it looks like a maze or labyrinth of knobs, buttons and sliders, second thought I am gonna run away now and hide... on the other hand, I like to play with 'things' - until I get some sort of result ! My son is a musician (lead & rhythm guitar) and I am familiar with some of the audio equipment, from studios- to life gigs mixing desks and other sound reinforcement equipment, not too shabby methinks now - LOL - I also dated a drummer for 10 years and have a bit of a clue what goes on backstage, does that count ?
Cheers BB
