"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

I wondered what happened to you. I thought that was you in Tara's picture. Outstanding composition of this stunning landscape.

I never got the ebots for you two---I was about to go to sleep, when I saw an ebot for Tara's shot, and I immediately looked at your gallery, and you'd posted too! I'm glad I saw---what a wonderful surprise! At least you didn't call this "Alabama Hills"---'cause when one comes to these pics, after reading "Alabama Hills," they think, "mannnnn, someone really screwed up Alabama!" Such very different shots between you two: You have much more light in the foreground, and it's a different place. Tara's was more dramatic and contrasted, while your foreground is so sandy and---I don't know, you captured the rocks and terrain like it hardened out of some liquid of some kind. I love the detail and sweep of it. And the background here looks like someone chiseled some very old ice, or big chunks of silver. Real contrast here. And such a brooding gray sky. A beautiful shot, with your usual grace and detail. (So you guys drive into Mobile afterwards, for a mint julep?) It's great to see you here again. I think the last time you posted, King Henry VIIIth was just elected to congress. I wish you a great trip home!

A wonderful shot and good to see the photo you might have been taking in the photo Tara posted. I hope you guys have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Glad to see you back to posting! Missed you! I see the geology, but where are the cowpokes? I see why Hollywood started filming here - wild nature, much sun (needed for those old cameras and film), far from disturbing factors (the brats next door, and their parents), and so on... I, too, wonder how these piles of rocks wound up here, and if they are related to the distant mountains. Looks like they have snow in the ravines. Would be interesting with more photos to get a better grasp of the geology ("Gee! How come your name is Ology?") Keep up the good work! :-)
And don't you dare drop from sight again!

Well I had to look up the geology and was rewarded with an explanation I wasn't expecting! I had no idea that granite weathered in wet and warm conditions..we don't have a lot of that here.
These are very beautiful colours which incidentally are very much in fashion for home interiors here. They look better in the hills than in the home in my opinion!

What a beautiful 'scape! The contrast between your foreground rocks and the background hills is stunning, and the light is so magical...you're channeling Ansel Adams here, I think. Very fine work, and good to see you again!
