Description

Captured 4/28/16 @ 11:46 am, at the beautiful La Mirada Regional Park in beautiful La Mirada, California. Addendum: I thought it was a duck without taking a closer look. Thanks to T-Rex I remedied the egregious error.

No peek-a-boo here, and Peking Duck is found only in Chinese restaurants.

Is that really a "quack", or is it a "honk" (goose). Looks rather "honky" to me. The black knob on its "nose" suggests goose. I'd like to see another photo of this fellow. But be careful, geese are temperamental and like biting you in the butt or any other part they can get at. But also fun to watch (especially when they're chasing an un-careful human!). Keep up the good work! :-)

You wrote, of your duck-goose mistake, "Thanks for spotting that before I got into too much trouble." I picture an army of geese coming to your house with handcuffs, lol. I never worked out the physics of these goose poses: I don't know where exactly they're hiding. But it's a true to life shot of a goose napping, and you've captured the mass of it, the big mass of feathers and neck and chest, all turned into a blob of goose-dom. And the surroundings meld with the goose well---in hue. That's parched ground! Fine single portrait of what two of your commenters call a dangerous bird. (I've photographed geese on my belly, crawling along the grass. And yeah, they suddenly turned around and came at me. I couldn't believe how fast they did it, too: The attacker---one lone goose---must've been the head of the group, because the minute he came at me, everyone else followed. And I thought: What're they gonna do, peck me to death? But I got the hell outa there. When you're on ground level, a pack of attacking geese isn't a welcome sight. I'll try to find the last shot I got before I ran. It'll probably be a blur...)
