Description

Low tide on the beach near Cape Arago, Oregon. The "big rock" in this photo is actually a slab of sea floor that has been thrust upward as one tectonic plate (Juan de Fuca) subducts under another (the western edge of the North American plate). The people are busily examining various forms of sea life exposed only when the tide goes out.

Ooh I love doing what these people are doing. It is amazing what you can find in the rock pools and on the rocks. This is a great slab of the seafloor that has been exposed in this excellent capture. 😄

Looks like the tides are pretty high if the sea covers this big boy. Reminds me of something washed ashore.

Amazing, and makes one feel very small! Imagine "the big one" throwing about huge rocks like this. Eeek! I bet the folks down there are having a lot of fun with the tidal puddles. Big waves. Nice camera location, gives a very good idea of sizes and the forces involved in creating this. Keep up the good work! :-)

Terrific angle! It was fun to watch them scrambling around down there, and that single slab surrounded by sand is quite dramatic!
