Description

Captured 5/1/16, at the beautiful Victorian Fair, held on the beautiful grounds of the beautiful Homestead Museum in beautiful City of Industry, California. The penny-farthing, also known as a high wheel, high wheeler, and ordinary, is a type of bicycle with a large front wheel and a much smaller rear wheel. It was popular after the boneshaker until the development of the safety bicycle in the 1880s. It was the first machine to be called a "bicycle". Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia. The rider told me that he had purchased this beauty for a mere $3000. More high wheeler fotos to come. And note the neat topiary at the left of the image.

It looks very graceful, but I'll bet it's awkward as heck to get up onto, especially with my short legs! $3000? No thanks, the photo is enough for me. Great capture (and yes, those hedges are nicely clipped!)

Harry, I'm at 90 minutes and have to leave, so I skipped the previous image (will get to it next time) to get to this. This is a gem. I love what you captured both of the guy---great expression and shadow on this face, and noble but relaxed pose over his prized possession---the cycle---a massive spindly graceful thing, quite beautiful, with that great light/horn contraption on top (or whatever it is)---and the background---which you not only composed well against the guy (and on angles to him), but which has beautiful topiary and stone too. The pipe to our right (his left) blends in beautifully with the tire color. And the lines of the walkway beautifully meet and then veer away from him. But above all, there's the guy: Love his expression, and the shadow in his face, and how you got him posing for you like a true gentlemen of his sport. An real old fashioned style portrait, wonderful. And I'm slowly inching my way towards the present...
