Description

This beautifully restored steam locomotive is on static display in front of the Railroad Station in Da Nang, Vietnam. After an overnight train ride from Saigon to Da Nang we transferred to a bus for the ride south to Hoi An. There was not much time to check this beauty out and the landscapers did a terrific job to make it impossible to get a good picture of the entire engine. But gathering information, such as wheel configuration and engine number, from three different photos I found out the following information. Location: Gia Bat shed, Hanoi - which is incorrect because the engine is on display outside the Da Nang station. These engines were Vietnam's most powerful meter gauge (1,000 mm) steam locomotives. The original version of this locomotive was built by Societe Alsacienne de Construction Mecanique (SACM) in France and delivered between 1947 and 1950, before the partition of Vietnam. Gauga: 1000 mm Wheel arrangement 2-8-2/1-4-1 Wheel diameter/Driving Wheel 1,200 mm Cylinder; 450 mm x 610 mm Length: 19.010 m Height: 3.780 m Width: 2.760 m Weight: 81.5 tons Total Working Weight: 99.5 tons Maximum Speed: 67 kph Coal: 6 tons Axle load: 12.5 tons Power: 1,100 hp This picture was taken on 22 August 2012, Sig... :

Beautiful photo of a real rarity. I'm surprised it survived both Viet Nam wars. Interesting technical description. Keep up the good work. :-)

great locomotive.I also like old locomotives. Last year I took the Achenseebahn and this summer I'll go in Schweiz and I'll take the famous Glacier Express from Zermatt to Sankt Moritz ( a 7 hours trip seeing beautiful mountains !)
