Description

Taken at a rather average weather (showery) Cosford Airshow, this is the Swiss Hornet Display Aircraft causing alarms to go off everywhere.. The Swiss operate 32 of these, and they patrol (part time pilots) the airspace there, they are fully equipped with all major weapons including Sidewinders, AGM-88 Harm Missiles, Paveway bombs etc.. The pilots even though part time, are very highly regarded.. Training in the Alps at low level maybe has something to do with this.. this aircraft is from Fligerstaffel 17. Rob

This is a fun photo. Like having 2 cigarettes in its backside. But from the angle of the shot I can see why all the alarms were going off. And I bet the pilot was having a good load of fun doing it! In the 1960s, the Swiss had the French Dassault Mirage series of planes in its air force. Man, did they BOOM when coming into a high speed turn! The Swiss have always been very attentive to their defense. When I was in Lausanne in the mid 1960s, there were jokes at school about the Swiss Navy. Later, I found out they DO have a navy of several fast patrol boats, and they requisition other boats if necessary. Cool photo (how's your hearing, by the way? Did it survive this?)

Sensational mate. My cousin pilots a Super Hornet which has a Weapons Systems Officer (sexy "wizzo" girl!!) on board as well.

Does not at all look like a Rafael. Once upon a time there were those who saw the MIG-29 coming as a far superior form. Now I can say not I told you so but rather, I was there at Strike Fighter, a sort of British terminology, that presaged other terms such as Strike Command.
