Description
Hi,
'Miss Tilly Tant', is an AEC Militant Mk I Breakdown Recovery Vehicle, she was 'constructed' around Dec 1953 for the British Army.. It doesn't take much to figure what she was used to move..
The lifting weight was up to 30 ton's, had an 11.3 litre diesel engine, (around 10 family UK cars). The gearbox had 10 forward and two reverse, naturally it DID have power steering..
This was taken at Brooklands where she is part of the London Bus Museum, 'Milly' was used by them after retirement from the army until 1980. You can once more figure what she shifted..
She has been been fully restored to working condition and now is used as the heavy lifter there.. If it needs moving, 'Milly' does it..
She is so famous she even has her own website (yes, honestly!), I'll put it below..
Note: Behind her, you can see the original Brooklands bank, this still remains from the pre-war days of British racing.. You can take a run in a racer even now and the Hill Run is to the right..

When De-Mobbed a lot of these type of trucks were used as civilian tow trucks or fairground haulers.
Very cool mate!

My! Cool photo of this hefty lifter. Reminds me of the Scammel model by Airfix (I haven't seen that in a photo or real life). Keep up the good work! :-) Have any more photos of this lorry?

You can't keep a good heavy lifter down. Glad she is still toting away.
