Description

The Punta Gorda is a sliver of land that juts out into the Bahia de Cienfuegos. Here you will find the Palacio de Valle, a fantasy in Carrara marble and Spanish ironwork. Constructed between 1913 and 1917 by Don Acisclo del Valle, it is a mix of Spanish-Moorish art with influences of Gothic, Romanesque, Baroque and Mudejar (Spanish Muslim) architecture.

As always, your picture opens up dramatically in full zoom. (It's wholly worth the scroll.) I can't put my finger on it, but you have a way with doing pics that morph from top to bottom; this one is so bright on top, even without any sun; and the top of the palacio is a beautiful pinkish alabaster hue. But then we move down, and we sink into a cavern, with the shadowed building inside it. There's a lot going on down there. Fine detail and color differences, keenly shot/postworked (whatever your proportions are). I love that world down there. There's light on some of the trim, leaves, tree trunks, but it's a cool shaded cavern. And the other 3/4 of the shot is big diffuse light, beautiful clouds, and a beautiful blue mountain range. (From atmosphere.) Beautifully done! I don't know much about the Cuban revolution, but it's always surprising when a socialist revolution maintains their palaces from earlier ages: They stand out as symbols of opulence and decadence. And the architectural mix is beautiful (thanks for telling us the different styles). (Spanish had such wonderful mixes, when Islamic influence moved in.) A sprawling shot with plenty of mystery, and another of your wonderful multi-layered shots.
