Description

My best friend is a woman from Taiwan. Her name is Taoli. For her upcoming birthday I decided to look into her family tree and found, much to my surprise, that she has Italian ancestors. Something about Marco Polo I think. Anyway, I found a painting of one of her great-grandmothers. Let me introduce to you Tao Li-sa. By the way, this is why my friends don’t want me to take their pictures.

oh, this is a delight! You did a fine job matching her skin tone to the tones of this old warhorse-painting. And the original model for the painting (a 'Lisa Gherardini') would approve! (She was already deeply insulted by Marcel Duchamp, from his famous mustached version---I'm sure you've seen it lots of times, but just for reference: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6e/Marcel_Duchamp_Mona_Lisa_LHOOQ.jpg.) She'll be very happy to see this! I love Taoli's smile and sunglasses, and the way she dominates that wild moon-rock landscape. Also you can tell Taoli she has really smooth hands! You'll give her this in August? I hope she likes it. A wonderful tribute for a best friend; any best friend of yours has to be a gem. Love what you did with this, Sir M!
