Description

Tonight, my Dad passed away. He and Mom were involved in an auto accident. Mom was driving and Dad was the passenger. they were on their way home from shopping when they were T-Boned by a driver who, from all appearances, ignored the stop sign and plowed into their car. Dad suffered a cardiac arrest and the EMTs did all they could but could not revive him. the full impact of this event has not hit me yet and I don't know when it will. My step-mom is okay with some cracked ribs, broken sternum and a minor concussion but she will make it. I ask your thoughts and prayers for my family, especially my step-mom as we travel down this road. the picture presented to you is the hat that Dad always wore, no matter what, when, or where. It was his trademark. Rest in peace, Dad. You will be missed.

Mike.

I am so so sorry for your loss. I just read your recent entry in your gallery and was so shocked by what has happened. This is such a tragedy and I know mere words do not make up for it. I'll be thinking of you and your Dad in the weeks to come.

Take care. Clayton

A man's hat says a lot about him. One can see a spark of his personality in it, can imagine his laughter in a warm conversation or see him doing what he loves best while wearing it. A perfect tribute... {{{hugs}}}

Mike, I am so sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences to you, and your family. My thoughts go out to you all and my wishes for a quick recovery of your step-mom’s injuries, and strength and support for you all in the difficult time ahead. Your words in your following post, about all the people who were positively affected by your father’s actions took me back to a day almost 4 years ago when my 2 nieces and I cleared out my sister’s office after her death. Her coworkers came in one by one as we worked, each with a story of how much Leslie had meant to them. They spoke of times she had gone out of her way to help them, of her kindness, and of her humor. Most were fighting back tears even as they smiled at the memory of a funny moment. In the emptiness that followed my loss, it helped to hear all these strangers tell me what I already knew. How fortunate I had been to have such a sister. I can tell by your words that you also have this comfort. May you find continual comfort in the shared love of your father, with loved ones and friends. When I saw the hat, I thought of a favorite passage from a favorite book. The book is “Anansi Boys” by Neil Gaiman. You would have to read the book (if you haven’t done so) to get the full importance of the last three sentences, but I think your dad’s name would fit well where Neil Gaiman wrote ‘Charlie’.

“Spider and Charlie walked down the Williamstown high street in the morning sun. ‘You know, that really is a good hat’ said Spider.’ ‘You really think so?’ ‘Yeah. Can I try it on?’ Charlie gave Spider the green fedora. Spider put it on, looked at his reflection in a shop window. He made a face and gave Charlie the hat back. ‘Well,’ he said, disappointed, ‘it looks good on you, anyway.’ Charlie pushed his fedora back onto his head. Some hats can only be worn if you’re willing to be jaunty, to set them at an angle and to walk beneath them with a spring in your stride as if you’re only a step away from dancing. They demand a lot of you. This hat was one of those, and Charlie was up to it.”

I am also very sad to read the news, Mike - nothing and nobody ever will be missed as much as close family member, especially a Father, also a real friend to you, by the sound of it... that hat symbolises the typical outdoor person he must have been, just like yourself. I feel for you and my heart goes out to you and gives you a big hug and cry if you can, that will release the pain a bit... 😢 Thinking of you and apologies for being so late... (going through some personal upheaval myself, but not to worry, all is OK) BB

Awe Mike... I feel your pain... losing a Parent is the worst loss I've ever dealt with...15 years later, I still feel like I lost my Mom just yesterday,,,,,When I get too sad or too angry when I think of her being gone I try to think of how she sounded when she laughed...it helps. I lost the Mother of my Children Feb 13th - breast cancer... and these last few days I thought my Momma dog Booty was going to pass...she's doing better, but I'm still scared... when you make a 3d image, let me know, I miss it.
