For more than 20 years I have worked as a technical writer and commercial designer. My primary focus has been on print and Web design and I'm just now exploring the many incredible tools that exist to create 3D work. My main tools are Poser and Clip Studio Paint, which I use to create comic book style line art. I am also published an Origins Award winning Wild West game called GUTSHOT (see www.hawgleg.com for more info).

Awesome! Great character, the fun and sexy come across very well and a cool funny name as well! I also think what you're doing with this technique does an amazing job of transforming render into illustration. Great job!

A lot of work involved but the results are definitely worth it. Very unPOser-like.

Thank you! You know, the hardest part is setting up the textures to interact with the high-contrast lighting. The first thing that must be done is strip out any and all bump maps -- the deep shadows get really messy with bump maps. But once the figure textures are set up, rendering two large images and combining them really doesn't take that long. I created a 6500-pixel wide render, and my old Pentium 2 made each render pass in less than 30 seconds. After that, the touch up in Manga Studio went pretty quickly.
And thanks for the "unPoser-like" comment. My goal was to emulate traditional hand-drawn line art, and I think this does a pretty good job of that.

Really a fantastic illustration! It has dynamics, movement and wonderful composition with the background and logo. Just a quick tip so you needn't spend days on morphing hair to fit under hats - just use the morph brush and push in all the pokethrough and maybe smooth out the small strands that come out various places. You'll be done in minutes. :)

Thanks for the kind words about the illustration. And thanks for the tip. But I tried the morph brush, and it kept distorting the hair as I pushed the hair down. Maybe I just need more practice with it.

Cool play on the original femme fatale/spy chick, I wonder if she uses her hat to take out foes ? that would be novel...although, there was that large Asian dude in an old Bond film, that killed with his Bowler hat, but never a cross-over cowgirl with a killer hat !
Neat character and B&W effects.
~Cheers~

Heh. I'm actually planning to do an Odd Job joke in the story, where she does (indeed) use her hat like that! Thanks!
