Description

The French Resistance, often called the French Underground, was a collection of French resistance movements that fought against the Nazi German occupation of France and against the collaborationist Vichy regime during World War II The resistance cells were small groups of armed men and women, who came from all economic levels and political leanings of French society, including emigres, academics, students, aristocrats, conservative Roman Catholics, including priests, and also citizens from the ranks of liberals, anarchists and communists. They worked in conjunction with the OSS (Office of Strategic Services), the forerunner of the CIA. The resistance movement provided intelligence for the Allies, by publishing newspapers with covert messages, and broadcasting clandestine short wave radio messages, They blew up German supply lines and storage facilities, and they helped downed Allied pilots and aircrew to avoid capture and facilitated their escape. Great tribute to these men. Some died for France ! One of their leaders, Jean Moulin, died in Metz, in the station. There was the inauguration of a group of statues two years ago, in the hall of the station.

Aha! I thought they were incognito security guards! Nice photo - captures the diversity of the resistance. Many died, taken by the Gestapo, some tortured to death for information. No matter what background, I respect these people. They sure beat up the 3rd SS panzer division on its march to Normandy! Keep up the good work! :-)

A dangerous job that frequently brought death if captured. Love the costumes and variety of weapons. Vive le FFI!
