Description
Hi,
This was taken at Shuttleworths Military Pageant..
You are looking at something never seen during wartime years for sure..
The German marked Glider is a Grunau Baby..
This is a German Pre-War Glider and was mass produced.. 6,000 were built in several Countries.. It was extremely aerobatic, and after the war series production restarted in a few Countries.. In 1941 it was produced in Brazil!
This is an original German wartime example.. The only example flying in the UK in German scheme..
The British is the very rare Slingsby T.6 Kirby Kite.. Only 25 were built and they were used to train Assault Glider Pilots, and for Chain Home Radar usage.. ALL were impressed into RAF use.. It says allot for the remarkable toughness of it that still 7 survive!
How many fly, I'm not sure..
They landed together after putting on a synchro display, unfortunately on the short runway near their hanger lol

So THIS is how they trained glider pilots. And Home Radar operators. I'm amazed at how much one can do with a glider. And these 2 are SO close together, yet no accident. Thanks for the history. This could have been a pre-WWII photo, considering the swastika. Fortunately there's a tolerance for historical accuracy today! Keep up the good work! :-)
