Description

This turned into a big pain. 1.) My SR-71 model needed some major work when I rendered it from this point of view. In short, I didn't finish the complete overhaul of the model but from this point of view, it's adequate. 2.) Getting the runway made took some trial and error. After some interesting combinations using Veloute, I was able to come up with a procedural method to generate the tire streaks. 3.) Setting up the desert and getting the engine exhaust shimmer was also an interesting problem to solve. I wish I was a lot better at doing landscapes in Carrara. Landscapes and realistic atmosphere's just aren't one of Carrara's strengths (or mine). I had to break this render up into three separate models to build the different parts with a final solution as seen. The technical problems with this render were surprising and frustrating. In the end, this is as far I'm able to push it. As usual, everything you see built and rendered by me, 100% Carrara with a little tiny bit of help using Paint Shop Pro. Enjoy!

I SAW THIS BIRD BACK IN THE LATE 70'S AT AN AIR SHOW. IT WAS ONE OF THE CREEPIEST THINGS I HAVE EVER SEEN. THE AIR SHOW TOOK PLACE ON A LAKE AND THE ACT BEFORE IT HAD JUST FINISHED. THERE WAS A LONG PAUSE BETWEEN EVENTS AND AFTER ABOUT 5 OR SO MINUTES THE ANNOUNCER STATED TO TALK ABOUT THE " SR71." HE EXTOLLED THE VIRTUES AND ABILITIES OF THE CRAFT AND WENT ON FOR A GOOD 2 MINUTES ABOUT THE PLANE. THEN AT THE VERY LAST POSSIBLE MINUTE HE SAID THE FOLLOWING......" LADIES AND GENTLEMEN IT GIVES ME GREAT PLEASURE TO PRESENT THE SR71 BLACKBIRD....................FROM THE LEFT HERE SHE COMES."....NOW THE THING OF IT WAS THIS, THE AIRCRAFT CAME INTO VIEW ALONG THE SHORE LINE NO MORE THAN 100 FEET OFF THE DECK IN WHISPER MODE..IT MADE THE HAIR ON THE BACK OF MY NECK STAND UP, AND THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE AUDIENCE AT LEAST 1500, THERE WAS A DEFINED AUDIABLE GASP AS THIS BLACK BEAST FLOATED BY JUST 100 OFF THE GROUND, THE DEADLY WHISPER JUST FREAKY.

Maybe even the most impressive aircraft built in significant numbers. Thanks for dropping by!

There is nothing easy about the compound curves and asymmetry of this aircraft.
